To My Internet Friends

Day 8:  My favorite internet friend:

Dear Friends,

There are so many of you that this letter should go to, there is no way for me to choose one person to write to.  There is a certain vulnerability that comes when you share your most personal experiences in a public blog.  I love your blogs because they are open, and honest, and real. You never gloss over parts of  your stories that show your human-ness and vulnerability.  You never take the easy way out.  You are phenomenal, and your blogs are a reflection of you.

Maggie : Your blog is the reason I started my own blog.  You write so passionately and so lovingly about your beautiful family, your pride in them shines through in every word.  Not too long ago, you shared a deep secret on your blog.  I have never read anything more open and courageous.  You started and moderate a community blog that has given so many women a voice.  I am sure that one day it will save a life, if it hasn’t already.  Thank you, for all you have done for so many.

Loralee: The first time I read your blog, I read about you losing your son.  I was immediately hooked, so much that I spent hours going through your archives, reading the whole blog.  Having lost a son myself, obviously I identified with you, but more than that, you have the amazing ability to bring humor, seemingly effortlessly,  to every one of your readers.  You are an inspiration to me in so many ways.  Thank you for sharing your story so openly and honestly.

Jolie: Your blog is one I have found the most recently, and again, the first time I read it, I was hooked and had to go through your archive in one sitting.  It amazes me that you are so much younger than I am, and I learn so much from you.  Parts of your story are frighteningly similar to mine,  and the fact that you came through your experiences with such dignity and grace inspires me every time I read your words.  Thank you for not pulling punches, and telling it like it is.

Again, this is by no means a complete list, and all of you have taught me so much.  I love reading your blogs, I love receiving your tweets.  Thank all of you,  for making me laugh, and sometimes cry.  Thank you  for making me challenge myself to be as open and honest as I possibly can in my blog.  Most of all, thank you for sharing yourselves, and your lives in your blogs.

  1. Jolie says:

    Oh, my. Thank you.

I’ve tried and failed a hundred times to find the words for those people on the internet who helped me along, whether they knew it or not.

It’s humbling to realize that I’ve been one of those people to someone else.

    Thank you for telling me.

Keep up the good work with the letters!
